Calcutta Run 2018 – 20th Anniversary

On Saturday, May 26th the organisers of the Calcutta Run, the Law Society of Ireland, saw its 20th race take place at Blackhall Place, Dublin 7.

Greeted by sunshine, the over 1000+ runners and 100+ cyclists had perfect conditions for the event. After a motivational talk by MC Gavin Duffy and warm up by the ladies from ICONIC Health Clubs, our team joined the rest of the participants.

Our 5km team included; Joey (0:25:05), Martin (0:25:24), Ailbhe (0:25:46), Daniel (0:29:18), Shauna (0:31:48), Sarah (0:32:50) and Susan (0:37:12). Our 10km team included; Derek (0:46:21), Alan (0:46:26) and Noel (0:48:54). Well done Team Panel for putting in such a great effort!

2018 saw the first Calcutta Run in Cork, with over 120 participants registered.  This year the Calcutta Run also offered the opportunity for cyclists to join in on a 50km or 100km cycle.

The Calcutta Run is fundraising for two very worthy charities; the Peter McVerry Trust and The Hope Foundation.

We would like to congratulate the organisers from the Law Society of Ireland, and especially the event manager Hilary Kavanagh for putting on another excellent event.

Irish Funds Annual Global Funds Conference 2018 – the summary

On Thursday May 17th the Irish and international funds industry convened to the Convention Centre in Dublin for the Irish Funds Annual Global Funds Conference.

It turned out to be a great event with an impressive line-up of Irish and international speakers covering a number of hot topics within the current funds industry.

The Panel was delighted to sponsor the first coffee break of the day . We also thoroughly enjoyed attending the event and the evening gala dinner.

Keynote speakers on the day included:

  • Minister for Finance & Public Expenditure, TD, Pascal Donohoe
  • Ruairi O’Healai, EMEA COO and CEO, Morgan Stanley Investment Management
  • James Norris, International Managing Director, Vanguard Asset Management
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, TD, An Tánaiste, Mr. Simon Coveney

Panel discussions on the day covered some very interesting topics and included some very prominent panellists from the funds industry. The individual breakout sessions added to the in-depth discussions brought up by the panel discussions.

Highlights:

Olivia McCoy speaking about the EY survey on Diversity & Inclusion and how it showed that around 47% of firms said that they had achived higher sales due to their D&I strategy.

In the lead up to Brexit, large amounts of global firms look at alternative locations for their European offices, there were talks of over 80 firms with plans to expand (Ireland, Luxembourg and Germany some of the most popular ones).

Tanaiste Simon Coveney spoke of the support Ireland has from the greater EU zone and the exciting times that lies ahead for the funds industry, whilst being frank about the challenges that Brexit will present for Ireland over the coming years.

The Panel sponsors the Irish Funds Annual Global Funds Conference 2018

Celebrating its 20th year of bringing together Irish and International Irish Funds will see next week’s Annual Global Funds Conference as perhaps one of their biggest yet. The Panel and our Funds & Investment Management team, is delighted to be sponsoring this event and attending it.

This years’ conference takes place on Thursday, May 17th at the Convention Centre, Dublin 1 and if you are attending the event, please come and have a coffee with us at the morning coffee break at 10:40 and speak to our recruitment consultants about the services we provide.

The conference attracts delegates from the international investment funds community and highlights the topics that are currently in the news. It allows industry professionals from a wide variety of businesses to come together, network and listen to top class speakers from the world of investment and funds.

Panel discussions on the day will cover topics such as; the issues affecting the asset management industry, innovative and alternative investment products, evolving policy debates that are shaping the future of the funds industry and Brexit. A number of breakout sessions will cover diversity, board governance, digitalisation & FinTech and Millennials & Investment Trends.

Basis.point Annual Spring Lunch and the launch of their Supporter Programme

On Friday 4th May, we are delighted to attend the basis.point annual spring lunch. This year saw their biggest event to date, held at the Round Room in the Mansion House. 

The event was opened by Eimear Cowhey, Independent Director of basis.point. She spoke of the importance of the charity and how the support from the Irish Funds industry has had a huge impact. Eimear thanked the sponsors and spoke of how the money raised has helped the many youth organisations providing educational programmes for young people from disadvantages backgrounds.

Eimear was also delighted to announce the appointment of Sandara Kelso-Robb MBE as the new Executive Director of basis.point.

The event also saw a very entertaining auction, aimed at raising further funds.

The Panel takes part in the Early Learning Initiative’s LOVE EDUCATION event

On Monday, April 30th, a team of consultants from The Panel swapped their office duties to volunteer and act as judges at the Early Learning Initiative’s (ELI) LOVE EDUCATION showcase at the National College of Ireland campus.

As sponsors of the ELI initiative it was our pleasure to be there and to interact with the young people that attended the event.

Our consultants said it was a great day and that they thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone that came over to say hello and to find out more about a career in recruitment and the areas that The Panel specialise in.
