Team The Panel takes to Glendalough for their latest adventure

We would be nothing without a great team, and we have one!

Here at The Panel, we really believe in “team spirit”, and being of a size that allows us to involve everyone pretty much in everything we do we think we are doing pretty well on that end.

Last week we took this team spirit all the way up over 1,600 feet on a 3-hour trek, from Glendalough to Glenmalure. A big thanks to our wonderful team for braving the elements, and to our sponsored mountaineering athlete Derek Mahon and our very own Conor O’Reilly & Alan Bluett for showing us the way. Everyone completed the trek, although not everyone could make the trip, what is always clearly evident is the support we all give each other. To those left behind, thanks for manning the office.

If you would like to be a part of this team of recruiter champions then we would love to hear from you.

Contact Alan Bluett on [email protected]

We are always happy to speak to both experienced recruiters and also non-recruiters interested in working on our team.

Well done everyone! You most certainly deserved the warm meal and refreshments at the end of the day in the homely Glenmalure Lodge!

Here are pictures from the day, enjoy

PRMIA event – 20st September with guest speakers Jim Power and Kevin McConnell

On Thursday, 20th September, the Irish Chapter of PRMIA held their 1st event after the summer break.

Over 40 people attended the event which was entitled “Countdown to a More Uncertain Brexit”.

Guest speakers Jim Power and Kevin McConnell reflected on the current Brexit talks.

Discussions covered:

  • What is a “no deal“ Brexit and what are the risks associated with other “agreed” negotiated outcomes?
  • How should institutions prepare for a very uncertain run into March 2019 and its aftermath?
  • How will this uncertainty impact the view on the Irish economy and beyond?

In short, the conclusions are that the BREXIT Talks are going to go to the 11th Hour and the markets have not priced in a “No Deal Scenario”, Ireland is vulnerable no matter what the outcome and finally given how indebted all of the world’s leading economies are, no one is ready for another global shock.

This was followed by a robust Q&A session chaired by PRMIA Ireland Co-Regional Director Alan Bluett.

The event was opened & closed by Monika Smatralova (PRMIA Ireland Regional Director).

Special thanks to EY & Conor Griffin (Associate Partner EY) for kindly hosting the event.

Representing The Panel at this event were Alan Bluett (Deputy Regional Director PRMIA Ireland).

100 Women in Finance (“100WF”), Dublin location launched in May 2017 at the National Gallery of Ireland with over 220 guests in attendance. Keynote speakers at the event were CEO of 100WF, Amanda Pullinger and Chair of the 100WF Dublin location Committee (the “Committee”) & Partner at Maples and Calder, Carol Widger. The launch event was kindly sponsored by leading international law firm Maples and Calder and offshore investment services firm, DMS Offshore Investments.

On October 26th 2017 the inaugural educational event of 100WF Dublin location, “Renewable Power as an Asset Class – Investing in a Sustainable Future”, took place at the local offices of generous sponsor BlackRock. The event featured an expert panel of speakers including Teresa O’Flynn (BlackRock), Alison Manley (Goodbody Fund Management Ltd) and Paul O’Donnell (Greencoat Capital) and was moderated by Maria Ging (BlackRock).

On November 23rd 2017 the Committee was delighted to kick-start the festive season in the company of members of 100WF Dublin location at the offices of leading Irish law firm William Fry, sponsor of a thought-provoking and enjoyable evening featuring a Fireside Chat between special guest Marie O’Connor (retired PwC Audit Partner) and Dan Morrissey (Head of Asset Management & Investment Funds Department at William Fry).

So far in 2018 100WF Dublin location has held two further successful and highly informative events:

The event also served as a fitting platform to announce plans to launch the 100WF Dublin NextGen initiative in autumn 2018.

Due to disruptive February snowfall(!), the highly anticipated “Era of Digital Disruption: How Technology is Rewriting the Rules of Investment” event was postponed to May 23rd, with the evening, kindly sponsored by Goodbody Fund Management, ultimately drawing a deserving crowd. The discussion panel benefited from participation by Loretta O’Donnell (Citi), Ian Headon (Northern Trust) and Carol Ward (Man GLG).

Additionally, the Committee was proud to have Chair Carol Widger represent 100WF through her attendance and participation at Northern Trust’s International Women’s Day event in March at the University of Limerick and on May 17th Carol featured on a panel discussing Diversity at the Irish Funds Annual Global Funds Conference together with moderator Revel Wood (FundRock) and fellow panellists Olivia McEvoy (EY), Paul Flynn (Lincoln) and Prof. Linda Doyle (Trinity College Dublin).
