In May 2014 Derek Mahon and his fellow climber Noel Hanna reached the summit of Mount Everest, a long time goal for both Irish men.
On July 27th 2017, Derek takes to his 3rd summit of “The 7 Summits” challenge – Mount Kilimanjaro and we here at The Panel are pleased to announce that we will be right there with him.
Facts about Mount Kilimanjaro (*MJ)
MJ is located in Tanzania and situated 200 miles and 3 degrees south of the equator and is Africa’s highest mountain standing at 5,895 meters / 19,341 feet.
The first recorded successful summit was by Hans Meyer in 1889. To date the summit success rate is 60% with less than 40 deaths recorder officially since 1996.
The climb itself covers a range of climates and terrain from rainforest, heath zone, moorland, alpine desert and glacier to the summit. So expect heat, humidity, rain and hail showers and snow.
About Derek Mahon
Derek has been involved with financial markets and currently works as a Financial Advisor at Tara Financial Partners. He is an avid sports man and a keen mountaineer having summited many local and international mountains which lead to an unbelievable achievement in the summiting of Mount Everest in 2014, especially since Derek only started climbing less than 3 years previous!
Since then he has been planning, in his own words “his next real challenge – summiting the 7 highest summits on the world’s 7 continents!!”
On Thursday 27th July Derek departs to climb Kilimanjaro and all of us here at The Panel wish him every success and will continue our support and look forward seeing ‘’The Panel’’ flag fly high with Derek on one of the world’s highest peaks.
